U.S. crude oil exports hit an all-time high as output from the nation's shale fields continues to surge. Preliminary weekly figures show U.S. production hitting a record 12 million barrels per day US crude oil production grew by 11% in 2019. According to the US Energy Information Administration (EIA), the US crude oil production grew by 11% in 2019, reaching a record level of 12.2 md/d. This growth was spurred by the rising production from tight rock formations using hydraulic fracturing ("fracking") and horizontal drilling. EIA expects natural gas exports to average 9.9 Bcf/d in 2018, up 15% from 2017 levels. EIA also expects natural gas exports to rise by an additional 38% in 2019 to 13.7 Bcf/d. To date, the Department of Energy has approved 21.35 Bcf/d of long-term exports of natural gas to any country in the world not prohibited by U.S. law or policy.
