Has anyone purchased VMIN? Since XIV is being liquidated and Fidelity will no longer allow us to buy SVXY, VMIN seems like the closest reasonably comparable Inverse VIX ETN/ETF available.
Although I have been using options to hedge positions, option spreads and strategies have not yet been fully integrated into my portfolio. My question with concerns to trading volatility, is, are traders only trading VIX or is it feasible to trade the volatility of the underlying security that is calculated into the price of option itself. Volatility Trading doesn't bet on the share price or direction, only the IV pricing mechanism. by delta hedging, you've isolated the IV as the value driver. if all is right in the world, the IV of the option you sold will start to decline as maturity approaches. once converges back to it's usual historical levels, you buy the option back and sell the SPY shares. i've been using the RSI and MA (on their defaults) to trade Volatility 75 on a 15m chart. It worked well for about a week. 70% of my trades were Sells. I'd sell when the RSI starts dropping from 60 to the 50s. i didnt hold position till RSI went all the way down because it might reverse around 50RSI. Then my Buys would be same thing but around 40s.
