Hardening oils for soap

Like sodium lactate, salt will help harden soap into very hard bars. Add about ½ teaspoon per pound of oil in the recipe. This recipe has 14.25 ounces of oils, so between ¼ and ½ teaspoon of salt will be enough. Stir it into the lye solution well, making sure it is fully dissolved before adding the lye to the oils. For example, if there are 32 ounces of oils in your recipe, add 1 teaspoon; for 48 ounces of oil, add 1 1/2 teaspoons. Stir the mixture very well to make sure that all of the salt is dissolved. Add your lye to the salted water, making your lye solution and then resume your normal soap making procedure.
